19. Travelling and transport

Introduction
Travelling is a part of our life. If you don’t live in the town in which you work or attend school, you have to commute. Travelling could be also a hobby. Lots of young people like to travel around Europe or America or if they are rich enough, they can travel round the world. They find new places, new culture, or meet new friends. On holiday, a lot of people travel for example to the sea or to the mountains. Other people travel abroad to learn new language or to earn some extra money. For some people, travelling is a part of their jobs, for instance travel agents, managers, professional sportsmen, singers etc.

But travelling can sometimes be quite dangerous – you can meet bad people, you can get lost, your money can be stolen etc.

Means of transport
CAR – quite fast, comfortable, you can get nearly everywhere, you can stop anytime, traffic
            jams, expensive fuel, dangerous roads
BUS – quite fast, cheap, crowded, dirty, careless drivers, sometimes dangerous, uncomfortable
TRAIN – fast, cheap, more comfortable
AIRPLANE – for long journeys, comfortable, expensive, food included, very fast, sometimes
                       dangerous
BICYCLE – cheap, healthy, good for environment, you can get everywhere
ON FOOT – the cheapest kind of travelling, healthy, keeps you fit, slow
BOAT – slow, only at the places where the water is found, could be cheap or expensive,
               noisy, not so dangerous

Going abroad with travel agency or on your own

With travel agency – everything is prepared for you, you need only money, because the travel agency cares about everything. But it could be sometimes very dangerous, because if the travel agency goes bankrupt, you can stay in a foreign country without any help. In this case, you have to contact our embassy and ask for help. Or you pay for a luxurious holiday, but what you get is terrible accommodation and services.

On your own – it´s you who has to arrange everything - you have to book the accommodation, buy the tickets, use your own car etc. On the other hand, you can do anything you want, you can go everywhere you like, you can take anyone you want with you. Simply said, you are independent on other people.
