18. Food

Introduction
Everybody has to eat. Different people have different tastes. I like meals cooked by my mother. When I eat the same meal cooked by someone else, I don’t like it so much.

My attitude to eating
Food is one of the biggest issues of today, because it is necessary to eat. But what should we eat? What is heathy and what is unhealthy? I really don’t know. Eggs were said to be healthy a few years ago. Later, they were said to be unhealthy because of cholesterol. But now, I read again that people should eat eggs because they are good for their memory and they protect them from stress. It’s the same with milk, for instance. Milk is good for bones, but you can get fat after consuming some kinds of milk.
Or another question: Can we eat healthy vegetables which have been grown from an acid soil?

Healthy food: fruit, vegetables, poultry, fish, cornflakes, dark bread, honey, cereals …

Unhealthy food: eggs, pork, beef, chips, sweets, chocolates, hamburgers ....

Alcoholic drinks: bad for the liver, but a low consumption of beer can help our digestion and a low consumption of red wine can be good for our  blood

A lot of people are vegetarians because they think their diet is healthy, but I think it’s not true.

At the restaurant
When you come in, you should find a free table and wait for the waiter. The waiter brings you a menu and asks whether you want something to drink (mineral water, cola, wine, beer, champagne, aperitifs...). You can have a soup (potato, tomato, pea, bean, carrot, parsley, celery, mushroom, beef, tripe, chicken, hen, fish, goulash). Then you could have a main dish (meat with potatoes, chips, dumplings, pasta, rice...). As for dessert, you could have an ice cream, pancakes, cake, fruit ... Then you call the waiter and pay the bill.

Eating habits in The Czech Republic and The United Kingdom
In our country the day starts with a breakfast which consists of something to drink (tea with milk or lemon, coffee, cocoa …) and something to eat (one or two slices of bread and butter with cheese or salami, ham, honey, jam, ...)
Around noon we have our lunch which is warm and consists of soup, main dish, dessert, and something to drink.
An evening meal could be either warm or cold. Quick and cold supper may consist of bread or  rolls with salami, cheese etc. Warm supper could be a soup, potato pancakes, ham and eggs, sausages, ...
English breakfast consists of glass of juice, cornflakes or muesli with sugar and milk, toasts with marmalade etc. Of course, they drink tea or coffee. Sunday is reserved for their big breakfast. It can consist of ham and eggs or bacon and eggs, fried tomatoes, sausages, fried eggs, several toasts with cheese or marmalade etc.
Typical British break is “5 o’clock tea“.
